  Special Care, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that provides preschool and before-and-after school programs for up to 135 children aged 6 weeks to 21 years. Two-thirds of the children are disabled or have special needs. CLS & Associates was asked to provide site and landscape design services for their facility, built in 2000. The design included development of universally accessible playgrounds, divided for specific ages and activity levels, a stage, a sensory garden and a memorial garden on a 5-acre site. A small bike trail through the playground areas was designed with intersections, turns and traffic signs for learning and fun. The sculpture in the memorial garden serves as a focal point to interior and outdoor spaces.
